An international team of astronomers conducted a study on centaurs (half-horse, half-human creatures in mythology) that show both comet and asteroid properties, as they have an unstable orbit. As a result of the research, it was determined that 19 of these centaurs were swallowed by the Solar System. One of the centaurs called Kaʻepaokaʻawela was quite similar to that of Jupiter but had an opposite orbit. This is against the laws of the Solar System because every object in our system is turning in the same direction. Astronomers performed a simulation to identify the origin of Kaʻepaokaʻawela to understand why. 4.5 billion years of asteroid Simulations showed that Kaʻepaokaʻawela appeared in interstellar space 4.5 billion years ago. Using the same technique, astronomers have discovered 18 other asteroids that may have come to the Solar System from interstellar space. According to scientists, these celestial bodies were swallowed by the Solar System in the ‘youth’ period. So about 4 billion years ago, when everything was closer together in the universe, the asteroids were caught by the gravitational force of the Sun. This also explains why comets such as 2I / Borisov and Oumuamua, among other interstellar visitors of our system, do not stay here. Our universe has expanded and these celestial bodies are not caught by the Sun’s gravitational force. Scientists think this discovery is important because, until now, astronomers had to gaze at distant solar systems to observe interstellar objects. In this way, it will be easier to investigate the physical and chemical differences between the solar system asteroids and interstellar asteroids. In addition, clues will be obtained on how interstellar objects enrich the chemical structure of our system and how it contributes to its evolution. Due to the small size of the centaurs, surface observations have not been possible until now, but surface indices can be revealed by examining the color indices and spectra, which provides an opportunity to understand the origin of the objects.
